Buying flowers is good for you because it will make you happy and boost your energy levels.
That is according to an article in Fitness Magazine, which states that a bunch of flowers can improve your day - whether they are given to you or whether you buy them yourself.
One way of getting your morning off to a good start is to place a vase of gerberas on your kitchen table, or somewhere you'll see them before you head out to work, the magazine advises.
The publication references research carried out in 2006 which examined the link between flowers and people's moods.
Nancy Etcoff, PhD, partnered with the Society of American Florists and the Flower Promotion Organisation to carry out the study at Harvard University.
They found that flowers encourage feelings of compassion, as well as helping to banish worries and boosting energy, happiness and enthusiasm at work.
At the time that the study was released, Etcoff noted that the "results suggest that flowers have a positive impact on well being".
